A prospective employer will invite potential candidates to attend an interview.

An interview is your opportunity to personally present yourself, expand on your CV and demonstrate your suitability for the required position.

To sell yourself effectively, you must:

  • Be prepared.
  • Come across as professional, confident and approachable.
  • Know your CV contents.
  • Know your career aspirations.
  • Be able to explain any gaps in your CV.
  • Be able to explain why you are prepared to leave your current employment.
  • Be able to communicate successfully your attributes to the Firm.
  • Show a genuine interest in the Firm.
    Background research the Firm.
    Obtain a job specification if possible.
  • Arrive at interview in good time. Dress formally wearing sober colours with suit jacket.
  • Know who you are meeting and their positions in the Firm.
  • Avoid carrying any unnecessary items into interview.
  • Greet the interviewers in a professional, confident and friendly manner.
  • Sit up straight, but relaxed and maintain eye contact.
  • Listen to and understand questions before answering.
  • Speak clearly addressing all the Interviewers.
  • Be concise with your answers.
  • Avoid waffle and irrelevant information.
  • Incorporate facts about the Firm with your answers where possible, drawing similarities with your own achievements and experiences.
  • Be prepared to ask questions.
  • Reserve your judgement about the Firm until after the interview.
  • Be honest.
