My client is a UK law firm that provide quality legal services and commercially focused advice from offices in South Wales and southern England. They are proactive, supporting clients with valuable advice and information and they provide a high degree of partner involvement.
They current have a unique and exciting opportunity for an Audit and Compliance Controller to be based in either their Cardiff or Bristol office. The successful candidate will have experience in dealing with personal injury claims, as they will be overseeing audit and compliance in an Insurance Personal Injury team.
Job Purpose

To ensure that the firm's Manual of Best Practice and Client Benchmarks are adhered to by team members by way of file management and auditing. As the job title indicates, this s a controller role rather than managerial role. This role will not have any direct line management responsibilities and will to some extent take direction from the Partners within the immediate team, although day to day work planning will be very much down to the job holder. This position is classed as a fee-earner vacancy as it fits very much into the legal technical side of the firm within the Insurance Practice Area. Applicants should come from a Personal Injury litigation field.
This is not a Risk Management, Audit and Compliance role supporting the main business of the firm - this is a technical role for someone with PI experience who is prepared to deal with the elements of audit and compliance as mentioned in this job description, i.e. going through fee earners 4, 10 and 20 week reviews, ensuring Defence dates etc are not missed and dealing with audits etc. Audit and Compliance skills gained from outside of the Personal Injury field are non-transferable - the litigation and legal elements are critical.

Key Competencies

Review team members’ Supporting Documents and Strategies and sign off accordingly.
Review general damages and sign off the "Authority to Exceed Colossus" Form or GDs Guidelines brackets where appropriate.
Monitor and enforce team members’ 4, 10 and 20 week reviews and sign off accordingly.
Conduct a weekly meeting for lawyers to discuss issues, files and audits.
Maintain and check critical dates report.
Maintain pre-trial/hearing reviews.
Audit preparation and management relating to internal and external audits.
Complete Audit Action Plans following internal audit of files.
Conduct and manage Lexcel file reviews.

Manages time so that adequate time is allowed for reviewing Supporting Documents, Strategies,"Authority to Exceed Colossus" forms and 4, 10 and 20 week reviews.
Monitors individual performance and provides coaching, advice and guidance as required following a review of the file.
Organises the weekly venue for meetings and arranges appointments to discuss pre-trial/hearing reviews with the team members.
Monitors the critical dates report on a daily basis.
Monitors performance and provides coaching, advice and guidance as required following audits.
Reports to and liaises closely with the Audit & Compliance Manager.

The role can be based in either Cardiff or Bristol but requires both sites to be covered.
